1873 Springfield Trapdoor Carbine Serial Numbers
The US Model 1873 rifle was the first Springfield rifle made with steel barrels. Springfield Armory NHS, US NPS. M1873 and M1877 Rifles SPAR1364 M1873 and M1877 Rifles.45 caliber. The left side of the barrel is marked ' U.S. This is a Springfield Armory Model 1873 Trapdoor in.45-70. The antique military weapon bears an 1883 cartouche on its left wrist. The high-arched breechblock bears the stamping “US MODEL 1873” at the hinge. Stamping is clear. Lockplate markings show the spread-winged eagle with the “U.S. SPRINGFIELD / 1873” forward of the hammer.
