2016 Hyundai Tucson (Page 1 of 4)

CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2016 Tucson comes with a dual-clutch, 7-speed transmission. But Hyundai forgot to tell you about one key phrase – zero-move. That's right, an alarming number of owners have said their SUV wouldn't accelerate after a stop.

Turns out that's because the transmission's application logic has been stumbling all over itself. Hyundai recalled the issue in September 2016, but it's difficult to say if owners are out-of-the-woods, or if this is just a sign of things to come.

All four of my windows have stopped working. The motor part works B/C I can hear it...the window just doesn't go up or down. It's likely off the tracks. I can understand one but all four.....seriously all four windows do not work. All this happened coicidentally jsut as I hit the 65,000 mile mark with the exception of hte driver side that I was able to get under warranty. If there is a recall needed it's for the windows!

A few months ago, my drivers side window stopped going up randomly one day. The motor was replaced under my extended warranty. All of a sudden this weekend, the right passenger's side window quit working too. I brought it in for service, and they tested all of the windows and the back right window is also not working. The dealership service department manager said that he sees every single tuscon have all four window motors fail at some point- he replaced four vehicles window motors today alone! my car is a 2016, this should not be happening to every single window like clockwork. There needs to be a recall on these window motors, and they should be covered if they fail after the warranty is up, because this is a manufacturing issue, not the results of wear and tear. It is dangerous to not have control of windows in all weather conditions, and for the safety of your vehicle leaving it parked anywhere with the inability to lock it up.

While driving in motion on city street, West bound, people were yelling at me... wasn't sure what was going on...I roll down my window to hear them yelling ' your car is on fire' so I pull off road in to a parking lot...stop and open door as fire rushing in as I'm 'literally' having to jump out ! trying to put fire out with fire extinguisher, but did not work...maybe 10 mins later, fire department arrives and puts it out

About a year ago, my front passenger side door started malfunctioning when trying to open it. I have to pull the handle 2-3 times before the door will successfully open. Two days ago, my rear passenger door won¿T open at all from the inside or outside. This is a huge safety concern as I babysit my 3 and 8 year old niece and nephew frequently. I¿ve noticed on forums that this is a common thing and I feel as though it should be a recall as it is a safety issue.

In summer of 2019 I noticed left rear passenger window stopped functioning. A few months later, right passenger door started not opening from the outside. Fast forward 3 months later, driver wide window stopped functioning and now a few short weeks later the left rear passenger door will no longer open from the outside. I have tried operating the windows that aren't working while the vehicle was stationary and also while moving. The doors obviously have only been attempted to be open while stationary and in park. I believe this to be a possible electrical issue? but I also believe this is a major safety concern and not normal wear and tear. Consumer stated she now has 3 doors and 2 windows that are not working properly. Dealership has been contacted.

My rear passenger door won't open. It's not locked, and I've put as much force on it as I think I can without breaking the handle and it won't open. This seems like a pretty common problem with Tucson's and with Hyundai's in general. Vehicle was stationary.

Not long after the purchase of my 2016 Tucson, probably when I first started using the ac the first summer I owned it, I started to get some musty smells coming from the vents. This problem has gotten worse each year and changing the cabin air filter doesn't seem to help. I have never had a problem like this with any other car, and I have been driving cars for 40 years. The smell seems to pop up in humid weather when using the ac. I worry that the evaporator coil may be growing mold or microbes.

On or about 8/17/2019, the date and time disappeared from the display. Dealership states that it is a Hyundai satellite communication error affecting 100 of thousands vehicles. Numerous contacts via twitter, facebook and myhyundai website have not been responded too. Telephone calls to Hyundai customer awareness just repeat that Hyundai is aware of the situation but no fix or solution is available. This is a safety issue since not having access to the time requires checking cell phone which in Washington state is considered distracted driving and is illegal. Since using vehicle for work, knowing the time numerous times during various trips as well kids continually checking the time on cell phones a safety issue has developed and Hyundai is ignoring not only the problem but the car owners. Not having a working clock may seem trivial, but having to pick up a cell phone to check the current time is dangerous and would be unnecessary if Hyundai fixed a feature that came with the car.

This has happened on three occasions, when sitting idle and about to accelerate to turn into traffic, my car has stalled, shook and almost stopped. In one instance my car was in park when I stopped to take something out of my vehicle. Upon putting in drive, the engine revved and but did not move the vehicle. Two times almost resulted in an accident with my children in the vehicle!! these instances happened this week, dating 8/17/12019 - 8/19/2019 at approx 23,000 miles on the odometer. Once in our residential neighborhood, once on a very busy 4 lane highway.

I've owned my 2016 Hyundai Tucson for less then 1 month now. On 3 occassions after coming to a stop and trying to accelerate the gas pedal seems to fail. My rpms go up but the vehicle doesn't accelerate until pushing the gas pedal 3 times or more very hard. My vehicle only has 30K miles on it. I will be bringing it to the dealership. This is very dangerous especially when turning and on coming traffic is coming but the vehicle won't move. This could potentially kill me if struck while merging on to the freeway. I'm now afraid to drive and fear for my safety. A recall should be made out to pull these off the roads!!

Latching/locking system does not work on the passenger front, and both rear doors. Unable to open the back doors from the inside or outside. The passenger front door will open from the inside but must be pulled 3 times to open from the outside. Once the door has been opened initially it will close and open without problem. Went online to check for recall and seems many owners are having same issues.

Car Door Will Not Open

When a car door won’t open from inside or outside, it could be for several different reasons. Solving the problem will depend on the logistics of the particular issue, but what you can do will come down to whether or not you have working car keys. This will not be about DIY tips for opening your locked car. Instead, this will be about diagnosing and fixing the problem of a car door that won’t open from inside or outside.

1. Deadlock

There is a feature installed standard with certain types of cars that cause this exact scenario. As a result, the car door won’t open from inside or outside. As long as your key works, this won’t be an issue. But if you have locked your keys in the car, the car lockout is much worse than a traditional car lockout. These come as factory standard for brands like Volvo and BMW (including the Mini-Cooper).

This type of measure is classic car security at this point, as it began being used all the way back in the 1980s. Each update in this technology would make it so a car door won’t open from inside or outside with some different catalyst. There may be a button on the door or a sequence of buttons to hit on the car remote, which activates the deadlock feature. Sometimes it is automatic.

Solving the Issue

If You Have the Keys – If you have fully operational keys, getting back into a car once it has deadlocked is not an issue. Maybe you need to get your hands on a working key because your key broke off in the lock, but if you can copy your broken key, that is all you need. With a key, cars with deadlocking features are easy to open. When a car door won’t open from inside or outside because of a deadlock, the best option is to use the key.

This is one of the many reasons that it is so important to have a spare car key. Even if you have to call a friend or family member who has a spare car key, it is still a great way to solve your lockout. There is no universal fix for deadlocking that is simple for the average person to perform, so you can either reach to someone who has a key or reach out to a locksmith.

If You Lost the Keys – Being locked out of the car with no keys is most troubling when it has deadlocked. If you are looking to get a professional auto locksmith to help, it is going to be the most complicated of the various types of lockouts. It will require a locksmith with some experience to navigate the model’s specific type of deadlock.

The ultimate cost to unlock your car is going to be higher than standard because it is likely to require a greater level of knowledge on the part of the technician. Because the car door won’t open from inside or outside, you might need to pick the door lock, trigger crash sensors, etc. Don’t break your window. Unless your keys are inside the car (let alone the trunk), breaking your window won’t do you much good. When you are locked out of your deadlocked car, just call a locksmith.

2. Broken Lock

Having a broken lock is almost as bad as a car deadlocking. The car door won’t open from inside or outside, but this will likely only be on a single lock doing this. It is worse than some of the more common car lockout scenarios, but it is certainly not the worst thing that could happen to your locks. As long as you have a door lock that is working, you should have no issues getting into the car to fix your locks.

I would not recommend leaving this issue for another day. Trying to work around a car door won’t open from inside or outside by using another door puts you at risk. With many cars, broken locks are the result of poorly manufactured parts. These parts are used throughout the vehicle, so it is only a matter of time before your other locks break and you are left in a very bad situation.

Solving the Issue

If You Have the Keys – When a car door won’t open from inside or outside due to a broken lock, use your key to open the lock that is not broken. With this level of access, you can address the broken door lock. You probably do not want to do this yourself, but it is possible to merely purchase replacement parts for the door lock and fix yourself.

Frozen Car Door Won't Close

In cases where you are going to do this work yourself, be careful while taking the door apart (by removing the panel) to gain access to the car’s lock. Check the connections between the inside locks and the car door lock cylinder. Look for what has broken, because if the car door won’t open from inside or outside, it means there is a connection issue. With the door opened up, try to actuate the lock from either side and see how the moving pieces are not interacting.

If You Lost the Keys – You will need to get back into your car in general. Because the car door won’t open from inside or outside, ignore that door. Use whatever method you feel comfortable with to open a different car door lock. Once you have regained access to your car, it is time to get a new car key and then replace your car door lock.

You will have to deal with the cost of making a new key and the cost of repairing or replacing your car door lock. How you go about each of those processes is up to you. You can pay for parts and try to do the work yourself or you can reach out to a professional. What matters most is that you replace your key and fix the broken lock.

3. Door Damage

If you have been in an accident, you may havedamaged the door in a way that keeps the car door from opening altogether. When a car door won’t open from inside or outside because the door itself has been damaged it is almost always a bodywork issue. Though the car is not deadlocking and the lock is in working condition, the door cannot escape the door frame.

This issue can be obvious or rather subtle. Because it is likely only one door causing the problem, check to see if unlocking the door the conventional way moves the switch or post locks to the unlocked position. When you can see that the locks are working, but the car door won’t open from inside or outside, the issue is with the door itself.

Solving the Issue

If this is your issue, it will not matter whether you have a key or not. Most people will need to replace their door, and hopefully not the door frame. This is going to be expensive because it is structural damage to the car. When a car door won’t open from inside or outside in this way, a locksmith will not be your go-to solution.

A mechanic that can do body work is your best available option for this type of problem. Be cautious of trying to get the door back to working order yourself. When prying a door or wedging, too large of an uncompromising gap can damage the door further and even cause the window glass to break.

Car door will not open

General Tips

  • Check to see if there are any doors that will open from the inside or outside.
  • When you are taking your door panel off the car, be sure not to damage the plastic latches.
  • Examine the moving parts in the open door while you actuate the lock from both the inside and outside.
  • You will need to get back into the car in order to solve most of these issues.
  • When interacting with the inside of a car door be very careful not to disturb wires that may be for alarms, automatic windows, or even airbags.
  • Do not be afraid to call a locksmith when a car door won’t open from inside or outside, you are likely to need them for some type of service.

Closing Advice

In most cases where a car door won’t open from inside or outside, you are going to eventually need a locksmith. When it comes to the worst instances of a car door not opening for the inside or outside, you may need the assistance of a mechanic. If you are at all confused or uncertain about performing any of the solutions yourself, do not endanger your car further, reach out to a quality automotive locksmith.
